Characterising Creators's Characters
Project Type
Creative Thinking For Writing
Date
August 2019
I know. Sounds complicated. But it basically just means taking someone else's character and putting that character into your head. You can put them in a world, or just casually converse with them first. Without being too influenced by how the creator characterises the character, note down the character's personality, speech, thoughts, and relationship with other characters (can be yours or other creators's) based on you. After a few days, compare your copy of the character in your mind to the actual character descriptions/other people's characterisation of the same character. If you are able to ask the creator directly, even better. Note the differences down. From my experience, they'll more or less be a few parts of the character that you mischaracterised. This is just a fun exercise I used to do to comfort myself, but I've also realised that it is a great way to tell if you have mischaracterised some parts of a character you've really liked! As I said, it also works well if you feel lonely and need a person to talk to or comfort you :)
Alas, I beg you, PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FOR NEFARIOUS REASONS (I think you know what i mean by that. If you don't, stay innocent.)
